The Sussex County Association of Realtors hosted the SCAOR SUSSEX STRONG Great Gatsby Gala and Auction Oct. 24 at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Funds raised at the event benefit children in Sussex County. The event featured live and silent auctions, food from several area restaurants, music and dancing.
Sal and Bette Gallo, owners of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Gallo Realty, received this year’s SCAOR Community Foundation Humanitarian Award. Sal and Bette were taught at an early age that “charity begins at home.” Born into humble homes of first- and second-generation immigrants, their parents led by example, always giving very charitably, regardless of the fact they had little themselves.
This basic tenet shaped Sal and Bette’s business philosophy. Their goal was always to create a good outcome for all parties involved. Money was never the motivating factor in any transaction. They recently created the Gallo Gives Foundation, where agents voluntarily donate a portion of each settlement to the fund, and the company matches each donation 100 percent. Agents and staff take turns serving on the committee to evaluate fund request applications. Since 2016, over $100,000 has been donated to local organizations and charities.
