Sussex Strong, the Sussex County Association of Realtors Community Service Foundation, announced its Grease is the Word gala will be held from 6 to 10 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 17, at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.
Prior to the pandemic, the foundation annually hosted a large themed gala to raise the majority of funds to help an average of 300 local children in need during the holiday season. Since its inception in 1994, the foundation has raised $1,537,380 and helped more than 9,712 children in Sussex County.
From many local organizations, committee members collect a list of families in need and then shop for each child, prioritizing needs first. Each recipient gets a new coat, clothing and shoes. Some children even ask for toiletries and school supplies. Every child gets one toy, but the majority of what the foundation provides is to meet basic needs.
Shopping and wrapping dates and times will be announced.
Gala attendees can dress as “Grease” characters and channel their inner ‘50s spirit. Costumes are encouraged but definitely not required.
Guests will enjoy great food from top local restaurants including 1776 Steakhouse, Big Oyster Brewery, Big Fish Grill, Irish Eyes, Jimmy’s Grille Catering, Grotto Pizza, Salted Rim and more.
Live music from The Fabulous Philadelphia Mojo Kings band will keep the evening hopping. Both silent and live auctions guarantee a chance to walk away with great goods from local shops, amazing travel experiences and more. Plus, there will be a 50/50 raffle and a wine wall.
Thanks go to presenting sponsors Sussex County Association of Realtors and Jack Lingo, band sponsor Ocean Atlantic Sotheby’s International Realty, and platinum sponsors Bonnie Benson, Scott & Shuman, and Vacasa.
